Parti Model:  Community at Macro Scale

Conceptual model diagramming basic concepts at large scale.  Existing forest is preserved.  Ideally, the site will be located near a bayou system (1).   Streets and boulevards (2&3) are carved into and accommodated into the existing forest.  These vehicular pathways are also the blueprint for the conveyance network of bioswales which convey rainwater to the bayou.  The vehicle pathway terminates at a public square (3) where the pathway scales to pedestrian at parkland near the bayou.

Parti Model: Community at Micro Scale

Conceptual model diagramming basic concepts at the smaller scale.  Small house groups are integrated into the existing forest.  1) The house typology is abstracted in a plexiglass material to represent natural ventilation as a primary passive cooling strategy.  2) The house group centers on a small body of water which serves as local retention and detention and as a unifying communal area.

Schematic Design Overlay

Schematic design overlayed onto actual site.  The site, located in Clear Lake City, is undeveloped and forest like in character.  It is located adjacent to Armand Bayou; an ideal site.  The parti model to the right is actually based on this site.  The concepts represented by these two parti models are presented in a graphic and more realistic format here.

Concept Studies

The conceptual ideas for The Homestead are explored and represented here in an abstract and schematic format.  The two models are parti models, which are physical models constructed to convey abstract concepts for a design; they aim at demonstrating ideas more than the built reality.  The schematic design overlay is a rendering in the overhead view; it aims at a more realistic presentation, but the design is still at a schematic stage.
